They can bind your calendar. Not your choices.

↳

Epictetus walked with a limp for the rest of his life — a souvenir of being chained as a slave. His response, recorded in the Discourses, was that they could bind his leg, but “not even Zeus has the power to break my freedom of choice.”

I read that page this morning, twenty minutes after finishing six kettlebell movements on my balcony.

My day is mostly things I did not choose. The 9 o’clock that becomes 9:15. The commute that expands to fill whatever gap I leave it. The school drop that is not up for negotiation. Anything I leave for the evening gets eaten by four things, none of which I would call optional.

So it happens at 7:00 AM. Not because mornings are virtuous — because 7:00 AM is the only hour the day hasn’t bid on yet. Six movements, one bell, no decision left to make when I’m standing there.

Some days it still doesn’t happen. That’s fine, if it’s a choice and not a default.

The chains are real. The freedom inside them isn’t taken from us — it’s handed over.

What’s the one hour your day hasn’t claimed yet?

Ironical framing ‘one unclaimed hour’ next to freedom😄

I feel choices comes from freedom and freedom comes from money. By the time we achieve it, there’s not enough left to choose.

btw mine would be brewing a good coffee and mindlessly consuming content

Haha! Money is a proxy feature for something else – that might mean different things 🙂
